Ilocos Sur - Vigan

Going to the second province of our series of Northern Luzon escapade started with an almost 2 hour bus trip from Laoag going down to Vigan. We left Laoag on an early 9am trip via Partas Bus Lines. It was a smooth and quick trip with long stretch of green plains along the way to entertain and relax your eyes if you happen not to doze off into dreamland.

Fast forward to reaching our final destination, the city of Vigan. I was disappointed at first, coming from a very clean and quiet Laoag. I could automatically distinguish the people’s discipline and love for their place. We got off at Vigan Public Market where we took a tricycle that will bring us to Grandpa’s Inn a short walk from the renowned Calle Crisologo, the heart of Vigan Heritage.

We made prior arrangements for accommodation, and we were automatically ushered to our room. The room was big, with 2 beds, and a private T&B in an old Spanish house setting. It was quite creepy but it brings the mood intact and fit for what is in store for us in Vigan.

After we’ve settled and unpacked, we went down to Cafe Uno, an on-site restaurant within the hotel. Cafe Uno is a small quaint coffee shop slash restaurant inside Grandpa’s Inn. We ordered the famous Ilocano dishes enough to sustain us for a long day ahead.

Burp! We rested for a few minutes, and off we will go to an afternoon of a comprehensive Vigan Heritage Tour on a Calesa. We have contacted Kuya Norbert ahead, and he picked us up at Grandpa’s Inn with his horse “Rodman.” Norbert has put to heart his career of being an effective tour guide, aside from the fact that he is very entertaining, he is quite versed with the facts and history of Vigan, as he got something to say about each and every spot we’ve passed through.

Here is a bulleted shot of our Vigan itinerary.
  • Crisologo Museum
  • St. Paul’s Metropolitan Cathedral (Vigan Cathedral)
  • Bantay Bell Tower
  • Syguia Mansion
  • Pagburnayan Jar Making
  • Singson’s Baluarte
  • Calle Crisologo
Capping the evening with another round of Ilocano dishes in Cafe Leona. This is a landmark restaurant at the very end of the Calle Crisologo. The ambiance and the mood set inside the restaurant is uniquely Vigan.

Good Night! Signing off for the next day’s adventure. Another plotted junket for you.
